ALABAMA 811

Know what's below, 811 before you dig

811 is a national number established to contact notification centers to have underground facilities located prior to the start of excavation work. Anyone who plans to dig should contact 811 to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags so that you dont unintentionally dig into an underground utility line.

811 protects you and our community! Hitting a buried line while digging can disrupt utility service, cost money to repair, or cause serious injury or death. Always contact your 811 center, wait the required time for utilities to respond to your request, and ensure that all utilities have responded to your request before putting a shovel in the ground.

Think it's not that deep?

Think again. 40% of active diggers don't contact 811 before digging because they think their project is too shallow to require it.

The truth is, utilities can be buried just inches below the surface. The only way to know for sure is to contact 811 before ANY digging project.

I dig here all the time

You might not know the area as well as you think! Even if you've excavated an area previously, erosion, settling ground and other factors can change the depth and location of utilities over time. ALWAYS contact 811 before putting your shovel to the ground.
